A new report by Water Aid International an NGO that deals with Water, Sanitation and Hygiene issues, over 40 million people in Ethiopia do not have access to clean water, out of an Estimated population of 90 million people, 81% of Ethiopians live in rural areas.
This makes one of Africa’s fastest growing Economies, number four in the world among countries with the least access to clean water in Rural areas.
Ethiopia has made a number of significant improvements since the 1990s, however, the report notes that they have not been enough. And rising temperatures are making it hard for Populations to cope ”temperatures are predicted to rise, threatening dire consequences for the country’s mainly rural population, which is highly dependent on agriculture” Ethiopia has been gripped by an El Niño-induced drought in recent years.
